I hereby decree

by David LeMieux

I have recently come to the realization that most good, compelling stories have something in that happened before the narrative begins. Examples:

  • Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Black Pearl: Treasure stolen, hidden, cursed, found again, and curse cast.
  • Matrix: Computers have taken over, harvesting humans like batteries.
  • Bourne Identity: He was an agent for the CIA trying to stop a dangerous assassin.
  • Jurassic Park: Dinosaurs already cloned.
  • Harry Potter: There was a dark lord who terrorized the wizard world until he could not kill a helpless baby (ha ha, and he called himself the dark lord).
The list could go on forever. Anyway, I am just pointing out something that I am sure is obvious to everyone else. Feel free to mock me.

Also, November is National Novel Writing Month. If you've ever wanted to write a long piece of fiction, now you have an excuse.
