An important aspect of web design is familiarizing the user with what your site is about very quickly. Because of the unpredictable nature of the web, people might not come to your site through the front door. Therefore, you need to have a consistent message across all pages on your site. Some kind of blurb or text illustrating who and what you are. Two sites that I feel do an excellent job of this are Forty and Happy Cog. In their headers they quickly and accurately explain who they are and why they should matter. These headers are pervasive on nearly every page on their sites. They do an wonderful job of informing about who they are.
