Panic. A few days ago I was working on my final broadcast assignment when I had a colossal drive failure. I didn't have the time or the money to go get another external drive and so I had to think fast. I needed to transfer 20 GB worth of files to another computer to produce my demo reel DVD (this included authoring files and raw data).
I decided to try something that I was sure wouldn't work. I went to the destination computer, opened up terminal (both computers ran Mac OS X) and tunneled in to the other computer... Success! Then, using SCP I transfered all the files over. I was amazed that IT hadn't disabled this. So, after running back and forth between the two machines for a while (to make sure no-one touched either) I finally had all the info on the computer I needed.
I am pretty sure I am the only Comm. major who would have known to do this.
